Psychological Diagnostic Consultation
A psychological diagnostic consultation is the first step toward us understanding what you are experiencing and creating a plan that fits your needs. We take time to learn about the changes you want to make, your history, current symptoms, health, strengths, and day-to-day functioning. This comprehensive picture helps us better understand your concerns and determine an appropriate diagnosis. We use what we learn to develop personalized recommendations and a treatment plan focused on your goals.
The evaluation is also an opportunity to meet the provider you may work with, ask questions, and talk openly about your concerns, diagnosis, and treatment options—so you can feel informed and confident about the next steps.
How It Works
1. Tell Us About What You’re Looking For
Start by submitting our Request for Services Form. Our team reviews the information you provide so we can understand your needs and determine the most appropriate next step.
2. Connect With A Provider
An Elara provider will contact you within 5 business days, by email or phone, to discuss your needs and outline the recommended next steps.
If a diagnostic consultation is recommended and you choose to move forward, you’ll receive an invitation to our secure client portal, where you can complete registration and schedule your appointment.
Consultations are typically available within days of your request. During busier periods, you may need to wait 2–3 weeks for an initial appointment.
3. Prepare for Your Visit
Before your appointment, you’ll receive everything you need to prepare, including detailed information about our practice, directions and parking information, and pre-visit forms to complete securely through your client portal.
For virtual appointments, you’ll also receive instructions for accessing our secure telehealth platform before your visit.
What to Expect During Your Diagnostic Consultation
Before meeting with you, your psychologist will carefully review the information you’ve provided so that your consultation can be tailored to your specific concerns and needs.
Your consultation is typically a one-hour, one-on-one visit with your psychologist. We’ll ask questions about your current concerns, history, symptoms, functioning, and goals to develop a comprehensive understanding of what you’re experiencing.
You’ll also have time to ask questions, share concerns, and learn more about your options. We believe you should understand what we’re seeing and why we’re making particular recommendations.
Leave With a Clearer Path Forward
At the end of your consultation, your psychologist will discuss the diagnostic impressions and recommendations with you, including the reasoning behind them. If psychotherapy or another form of treatment is recommended, we’ll explain the next steps and help you get scheduled.
Our goal is for you to leave your consultation with greater clarity about what’s happening, what can help, and what to do next.
